The Orchard Hill College & Academy Trust Training School is an in-house training provider, with courses delivered by experienced, qualified professionals.

We offer bespoke and nationally accredited courses covering special educational needs, safeguarding, challenging behaviour, nursing, therapy, curriculum development and a range of others.

We offer an excellent route to train as a teacher part-time whilst you work.

The programme is aimed mainly at those wanting to teach in the post-14 sector in schools or colleges.

There are two programmes which are taught alongside each other:

the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (ProfGCE) and Diploma in Education and Training (DET).

The course has a specialist focus on how to teach people with special educational needs. Your study will be based around six modules, including:

  1. Introduction to teaching disabled learners
  2. Assessment
  3. Applying theory to practice
  4. Reflective practice
  5. Developing practice in teaching disabled learners
  6. Policy and professional practice

Assessment

You will build up a portfolio of assignments during the course that will include academic essays, group projects and a reflective journal.

Entry Requirements

The ProfGCE (Level 6) is for students who have an undergraduate degree in their taught area.

The DET (Level 5) is for students who have at least a Level 3 qualification in their taught area (e.g. A levels, BTEC, NVQ).
