WorkStart comprises Traineeship and Into Work courses, providing an excellent opportunity for those who would like to gain experience and qualifications in work-related learning.
Courses range from Entry Level to Level 1 and Level 2 (GCSE Level) and time spent in College ranges from 4 to 16 hours per week.
Students who have participated in WorkStart courses have gone on to gain paid and voluntary employment in a huge range of jobs.
Age Range: 18-19 & 19+ with an EHCP
Course Dates: September 2018 to July 2019 The course takes place during term time over 36 weeks of the year
Session Times: 3 full days of 9.30am-3.00pm (1 day in College, 2 days in work placement)
Hours per week: 16.5 hours per week (dependant on the work placement)

About the Course
Students wishing to enrol on this course must successfully pass the Hodder online assessment working towards one of the above levels. You will also be asked to produce a record of achievement or qualification certificates.
Skills related to work are taught within the course-these include: following instructions, Health & Safety, preparation for work, interview skills, CV writing, dressing appropriately, knowing how to communicate with a safe person, and making choices. English and maths are also delivered as separate courses.
A bespoke Into Work curriculum may also be considered for those working at E3-L2 who do not meet the traineeship criteria.
As well as the teaching team delivering the course, an intensive course of work preparation and employability skills is carried out by trained teachers and job coaches, supported by work place managers. Specialist support will be provided as appropriate. Maths and English qualifications will be undertaken if not already achieved to Level 2.
Opportunities for paid employment, entry to an Apprenticeship (if at the appropriate level) or further education.
