Rachael joined the Building Skills for Independence course in January 2013. Rachael was always very happy and keen to learn at College; she wanted to make friends and try different work tasters. She has been determined in making her voice heard and has set up a MENCAP circles of support group...so she now has great confidence in advocating for herself and also for others.
I was really excited to start my apprenticeship as it was the first job I ever had. I am in the process of building my own webpage and learning to code, which is amazing and I am really enjoying it!
When I started at Orchard Hill the teachers were nice and helpful, and the class was small which made me feel more comfortable. Vanessa, my Job Coach, used to get the train with me to college because I couldn't go places by myself. It really helped build my confidence and in no time, I was getting trains on my own. I have really enjoyed my work experience and I now know it is what I want to do for a career.
When Riccardo started the College he was having trouble finding a job, but the skills he gained on the Traineeship course enabled him to secure full time paid employment.
