Students from Orchard Hill College have started attending monthly open meetings with Speak Up Sutton. These meetings are a great place to develop self-advocacy skills, make friends, to see students from other Orchard Hill College Centres, and to hear about other events that are going on in the local area.
This month there was a great turn out at the event. The day began with a coffee and catch up, during sign in each student was allocated a coloured sticker, which was the colour table they were to sit at throughout the day, which made it a great opportunity for students to meet new people. The day was filled of activities and small presentations such as Makaton signing, role plays about going to the doctors, group discussions, a talk from See Ability and lots of time at the end for feedback and any questions.

One of our Lecturers felt it was a great opportunity for students; “it was so lovely to see the students really getting involved, having an input and volunteering in front of the whole group.”
