Last week we held our first ever Fundraising Week across Orchard Hill College. The week started with a ‘Cycleathon’, and with an aim of cycling the distance of London to Brighton our teams took to the track at the David Weir Leisure Centre. We were amazed to see the teamwork and perseverance of everyone involved, and in the end we more than doubled the target and cycled the equivalent distance of London to Calais!
Tuesday and Wednesday saw the ‘Battle of the Centres’ as each Centre pooled together their creativity to run a series of fundraising events including afternoon tea, with delicious scones and cakes made by students, gardening services to neighbours, and car washing!
Thursday saw teams take part in the ‘Centre to Centre Race’, a dash across all 5 of our Centres by any means possible! Head of College Ashley Jordan Diaper cycled the whole route, while Janet Sherborne, Executive Head of Learning Support Services travelled by every type of London transport (including the River!). Kayleigh and Alice in Marketing dressed up as Batman and Robin and did the route by foot, and teams of students showed how teamwork is done in a relay across the Centres. At each stop along the way we had students and staff cheering and waving on the teams, with some VIPs including the Mayor Of Sutton at the finale at Old Town Hall.
On Friday we held the raffle draw, with over 30 prizes won including an iPhone 6s, a Nokia Lumia, 2 x £100 Sainsbury’s vouchers and more!
It was a brilliant week that showed what our students can achieve, while raising funds for Orchard Hill College, and raising awareness of our charitable status. Although Fundraising Week is over, our fundraising efforts will continue, so if anybody is interested in sponsoring us, running an event or becoming a patron, please get in touch!
