We can’t believe another year has flown by, meaning our students and staff enjoyed another Festival of Sport at David Weir Leisure Centre in Carshalton, together with Carshalton College and Kingston College. This year we were delighted to have St Philip’s School and Dysart School, who have recently joined OHCAT, join in the fun.
The weather kept us on our toes as everyone arrived and picked up their ‘Team Orchard Hill’ t-shirt before taking part in the opening procession, which luckily due to a break in the rain, took place on the running track. Everyone was then free to join in with different sessions such as cheerleading with one of the Crystal Palace ‘Crystals’, golf, drumming with Gary Mason charity, tennis, table tennis, cycling with EcoLocal, large-scale art, football, dancing and more!
After lunch it was time for the mascots egg and spoon race; it was a mad dash between the dog (Orchard Hill College), rabbit (Carshalton) and lion (Kingston), but we scooped the win! Our dog was honoured to be awarded the gold medal by the Mayor of Sutton.
It was a fantastic day, with spirits high despite the bad weather! Students had the opportunity to take part in new sports, to meet peers from other colleges and to enjoy a well-earned day of fun at the end of the academic year. Now to start planning next year’s Festival…
