On Friday we were delighted to welcome two Councillors from Croydon to our Vocational Progression Centre (VPC) in Carshalton.
Councillor Alisa Flemming and Councillor Shafi Khan were greeting by Javaize, a year three student at Orchard Hill College. Javaize gave our visitors a tour of the building and spoke about his experience at the College and his hopes for the future. The Councillors also sat with other students like Ava, who read aloud her fantastic write-up about her recent trip to Club Soda and an upcoming gig at Matthew’s Yard in Croydon.
The tour didn’t stop there, as they also met pupils from Carew Academy Sixth Form, who were busy painting and making items to sell as part of their enterprise, including hand-stamped mobile phone rests which proved particularly popular.
We would like to thank both Councillors for coming to visit us and spend time getting to know students, asking them about what they like and dislike about Croydon, and what facilities and groups they would like to be available in Croydon. Students felt their views were really taken on board and valued the opportunity to self-advocate and make a difference to their community.
