Governance at Orchard Hill College & Academy Trust

As a family of providers, Orchard Hill College and Academy Trust has aligned its governance bodies into a collaborated 'family' Board that promotes the free flow of knowledge and information while retaining responsibility for each side of the organisation within its respective group.

The College and the Trust each has a set of Members and Non-Executive Directors (referred to on this page as Directors). The Members are members of the College/Trust for the purposes of the Companies Acts. They have a number of statutory rights including the right to remove Directors, the right to amend the Articles and the right to receive the annual accounts. They are also given the right to appoint some of the Directors under the Articles of Association.

The collaborated Board of Directors is responsible for, and oversees, the management and administration of the College and the Trust. Directors have overall responsibility and ultimate decision making authority for all the work of the organisation, including the establishing and running of schools. This is largely exercised through strategic planning and the setting of policy. It is managed through business planning, monitoring of budgets, performance management, the setting of standards and the implementation of quality management processes.

Each OHC&AT provision (Academy or College) has its own governing body. This governing body is a committee of OHC&AT and holds delegated responsibility for the conduct of the Academy or College and for promoting high standards, as defined in the OHC&AT Scheme of Delegation.

The governing body supports the Head or Principal to set the strategic direction, policies and objectives for the Academy or College and should provide support and challenge to the Head/Principal and advice to the Directors on the functioning of the provision. The governing body will consider items of business such as:

  • The progress and achievement of students
  • The quality of teaching
  • The behaviour and safety of students
  • The financial management of the Academy/College

Details of Academy Local Governing Bodies (LGBs) are available via each Academy's website, accessible via the Academies tab above. For details of the Orchard Hill College Committee, please visit the College tab and click Governance.
